For neurodivergent thinkers and introverts especially, feedback can trigger overwhelm, shame, or paralysis, even when it\u2019s well-intentioned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But here\u2019s the truth: feedback isn\u2019t the problem. It\u2019s our relationship with it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Inclusive leaders &#8211; and humans, frankly &#8211; need to reframe feedback from threat to tool, from confrontation to care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"why-feedback-feels-hard-especially-for-neurodivergent-and-introverted-thinkers-0\">Why Feedback Feels Hard (Especially for Neurodivergent and Introverted Thinkers)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Neurodivergent minds often experience:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Overprocessing<\/strong>: turning a short comment into a long internal spiral<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Black-and-white thinking<\/strong>: interpreting feedback as total failure or total success<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Rejection sensitivity<\/strong>: experiencing perceived criticism as deep emotional pain<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Introverts may feel:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Communication fatigue<\/strong>: needing time to formulate responses<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Emotional intensity<\/strong>: absorbing feedback deeply, even when small<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Avoidance<\/strong>: sidestepping feedback to protect peace<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These responses aren\u2019t weakness &#8211; they\u2019re wiring. But they can be navigated with care and intention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"receiving-feedback-the-power-of-choice-1\">Receiving Feedback: The Power of Choice<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can\u2019t control every word someone says &#8211; but you <em>can<\/em> control how you respond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"reframe-feedback-as-data-2\">Reframe Feedback as Data<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Feedback is input. Not identity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis suggestion is one perspective. I get to decide how (or if) it applies.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"pause-before-reacting-3\">Pause Before Reacting<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Give yourself a buffer:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u201cThank you. I want to reflect before responding.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Journal your reaction privately &#8211; then revisit when calmer<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"sort-and-select-4\">Sort and Select<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not all feedback deserves action. Ask:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Is this rooted in shared goals or personal bias?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do I trust the source?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Does this align with my values or priorities?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You are allowed to reject feedback that isn\u2019t helpful &#8211; even if it\u2019s delivered politely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"ask-for-feedback-bravely-and-intentionally-5\">Ask for Feedback &#8211; Bravely and Intentionally<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The irony? The more safe feedback feels, the more valuable it becomes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"choose-your-source-wisely-6\">Choose Your Source Wisely<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ask those who:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Know your goals<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Respect your strengths<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Offer honesty with care<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"frame-the-ask-with-clarity-7\">Frame the Ask With Clarity<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cCan I get your input on how I facilitate retros? I want your honest take, even if it\u2019s tough to hear.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Asking directly disarms avoidance and sets the stage for richer conversation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"giving-feedback-that-lands-with-care-8\">Giving Feedback That Lands With Care<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you\u2019re leading a neurodivergent or introverted teammate, your delivery matters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"be-specific-not-vague-9\">Be Specific, Not Vague<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Instead of \u201cYou\u2019re not engaging,\u201d say \u201cI noticed you didn\u2019t contribute to yesterday\u2019s planning &#8211; can we talk about why?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"lead-with-intent-not-emotion-10\">Lead With Intent, Not Emotion<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI\u2019m sharing this because I value your growth, not because something went wrong.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"allow-space-to-reflect-11\">Allow Space to Reflect<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Don\u2019t expect immediate reaction. Offer time, documentation, or async follow-up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"feedback-is-growth-not-judgment-12\">Feedback Is Growth &#8211; Not Judgment<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At its best, feedback:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Uncovers blind spots<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Strengthens relationships<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Aligns intentions and impact<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Builds self-trust<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And when practiced with empathy, it becomes a culture &#8211; not a moment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"the-invitation-13\">The Invitation<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So whether feedback feels like a gift or a gut punch, remember: <strong>You get to choose what to do with it.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bravely ask. Thoughtfully offer.
